The Who, What, When, Where, & Why

The Who
We are eight regular guys with one bad idea.  We are an eight man relay team entered in the Race Across America 2021.  From here on out I will simply refer to it as RAAM.  

The What

The Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well.

 

In 1982, four individuals raced from the Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles to the Empire State Building in New York City. Covered by national television, the race captivated the public’s imagination. Relay Teams were introduced in 1992 and quickly became the most popular and fastest growing segment of the race. Team sizes are 2, 4 and 8 persons. Relay Team racing made the event accessible to any fit cyclist.

 

There is no other race in the world like RAAM. There is no race that combines the distance, terrain and weather; no other event that tests a team’s spirit from beginning to end. The Race inspires everyone who has been a part of it - racer, crew, staff and fans alike. RAAM is the true test of speed, endurance, strength and camaraderie, the ideal combination of work and play.

The Why

To test ourselves mentally, physically, logistically, and raise money for a great cause.  What cause you ask?  Stay tuned for the big announcement.

65 Days & Counting....

We are a mere 65 days away from the start of RAAM, for us anyway.  Things are starting to come together on all fronts.  Our crew is finally coming together.  We have our five full time crew members who will be with us the entire race.  Then we have four crew members who will be joining us for the first leg of the race.  Those crew members will swap out with a fresh four crew members in Durango, CO.  Well, we only have two of the four slots filled at this point. The Adventure Begins in 89 Days

No update for over a month!!!  Well, COVID knocked me down, but not out.  It has definitely had an impact on my ability to train, but I am getting stronger by the day.  Enough about me though. We roll out for Oceanside 89 days from today.  There is no turning back at this point.  We continue to plan, gather sponsors, and train!  Honestly, the training part is the easiest part of the equation.  It is the planning and logistics that are a NIGHTMARE!  At least for a team full of rookies.   We have a crew chief, Jo Anne Pennington.  A rookie crew chief to go with the RAAM rookie riders.  Jo Anne has stepped up big time and volunteered for this massive undertaking.  We can't thank her enough.   She has been hard at work on logistics, booking hotels, and going over about every "what if" scenario that we are going to encounter during the race.   On the sponsor front we have been busy.  Please be sure and visit our sponsors and let them know you heard about them through us.  Our
